I am new to internet marketing,so please help me understand the concept of link building. You are not saying that unrelated links hurt a site, you are saying that they do not help a site in the eyes of Google. Am I correct?
Do links from article and newspaper sites help? I would imagine that one’s competition would direct links from unrelated sites to their competitor’s site if the unrelated links would harm them.

How well do back links work/not work when you’re getting links from blogs that do not fall into a specific industry? Some blogs are all over the place and don’t seem to settle into one category…just curious. Good advice though.

mmm… I don’t know what to say… matt cutts says that a link it’s a link… actually, this is how PageRank works. it depends on the number of backlinks you have… it has nothing to do with the relevancy of the link… so an irelevant backlink is still good, but not as good as a relevant one
