As I know paid links are considered to be black hat SEO and are usually banned by searching machines. What do you think about it?

All of this is sound advice – and fairly common.
But what about those starting out with a new site and no clue?

I’ve tried finding related sites (specifically related blogs) – and everything is NoFollowed!
    Even Forums block outbound links.

I’m not trying to spam the internet.
I’m just trying to get a few linsk to get found (without a link – the chances of Google touching the blog is nigh non-existant!).

So – what should peopel in my situation do?
We cannot find that many related/relevant sites.
The few we do won’t answer emails.
They don’t had links that are follwoed from comments etc.

    So what then?

Please – do some followup posts to this – give the completely clueless some insights and a little hope!

    Hi, Great post!!!!
If paid backlinks are banned and black hat, why google is using adwords and not penalizing any of their clients. If you buy link to manipulate search engines, then you can be penalized. But adwords google, adwords yahoo and Bing are paid links!!!!!! never forget that!

Backlinks are not blackhat. Buying links mentioned in point 7 is not recommended though. You can get your ranking dropped for that. Also, a few helpful tips here, as a directory owner I would recomment using non spammy semi-automated services to speed up the process. Social bookmarking has socialmarker service and directory submissions have semi-automated services too such as easysubmits.com that can help you do the same job 10 times faster. Wouldn’t recommend automating blog and forums posts though. Also, for some services online classified can have a do follow value and actual customers too. Great list overall.

Hmm, ive noticed for forum signatures to perform very poorly but still can be used of course… Maybe they dont perform that well because there are so many of them on a forum :)

I thought I’d let everyone know of a free tool that I recently created that helps you track all of your backlinks (PR, linking url, price paid, site contact info, and more). It’s especially helpful with link exchanges as it automatically verifies that the link you received is still live on the website weeks or months down the road. The tool only requires a link for use. You can find it at backlinkreporter.com
